Andachtsjodler

Andachtsjodler Original 4-stimmig

For practicing, tuning in and enjoying

This yodel, which has been sung in Sterzing in South Tyrol since 1833, has been sung every year since the first Salzburg Advent Singing in 1946 by all the participants together with the audience in the hall as the crowning finale to the Advent celebration. This yodel achieved enormous popularity through the Salzburg Advent Singing. It can now be heard throughout the Alpine region and beyond in family circles, at events or at church celebrations. Tobi Reiser (1907-1974) adopted this devotional yodel – also known as the Mettenjodler or Jodler-Andacht – from Annette Thoma (1886-1974), his mentor, friend and grand dame of religious folk song in Bavaria. As early as 1933, she included it as the centerpiece of the “German Peasant Mass” she had written.
