A job as a Hiatamadl or Hiatabua at the Salzburg Advent Festival is highly coveted. A casting was held again this year to replace the shepherds who have gone into well-deserved “shepherd retirement”.
Out of numerous applicants, 12 children were shortlisted and put through their paces to determine their suitability. Actually, all of them would have been suitable as shepherd children. The judges Daniela Meschtscherjakov, Hildegard Stofferin, Gudrun Köhl-Korbuly, Hans Köhl, Simon Haitzmann and Markus Helminger were spoilt for choice when it came to selecting the four best of the great children who will make their exciting debut at the Salzburg Advent Singing this year.
